6 reasons to choose Preventa

One method that reaches the nest, not just the visible ants — and over 80 000 customers who have already put their trust in us.

01

We destroy the whole colony

Shop-bought sprays kill only the ants you can see — the nest stays hidden and the colony quickly recovers. We use professional baits that the workers carry deep into the nest themselves, feeding them to the larvae and the queen. When she dies, the whole colony dies with her.

02

Precise treatment in your home

We use a professional biocide designed for ant control. We apply it precisely along the active trails and feeding spots, without needlessly treating the whole home, without a stifling smell and without you having to leave the property.

03

No marks, no smell

Unlike the powder and emulsion products in common use, ours leaves no white marks on tiles and walls and has no chemical smell at all. Straight after the treatment you can use your home as normal.

04

No need to stay out of your home

You don't need to leave your home before or after the treatment. No closed windows, no hours of stuffy air, none of those outdated methods. The service is also carried out in homes with bedridden people — the home can be used as normal straight after the application.

05

Matched to the ant species

Several kinds of ant turn up in Bulgarian homes — garden ants, pharaoh ants, carpenter ants — and each takes a different bait. Our specialists identify the species on site and choose the product that those particular ants will carry back to the nest.

Everything about ants — why they appear and how to get rid of them

Ants are among the most persistent pests in the home. On their own they are harmless, but behind every worker you see on the worktop stands a whole colony of hundreds to tens of thousands of individuals — and a queen hidden deep in the nest. As long as the queen is alive, the colony recovers again and again.

Ants rarely turn up because of poor hygiene. Scout ants come in from outside through the tiniest cracks in search of food and moisture. Once they find a source, they leave a pheromone trail — and a whole column follows. The ants you see on the worktop, around the sink, in the bathroom or on the terrace are only the workers on the route — the nest itself is usually hidden in the soil around the building, under tiles, behind skirting boards, in wall cavities or under insulation. That is why spraying only the visible ants never solves the problem: it kills the workers, but the nest keeps sending out new ones.

The real goal is not to kill individual ants along the trail, but to eliminate the colony itself — to reach the nest, the larvae and the queen.

Why ants come into your home

Ants look for three main things: food, water and suitable shelter. Even a very clean home can attract ants — a crumb of sugar on the worktop, a greasy spot behind the cooker, an open jar of honey, pet food or a drop of water by the drain is enough. Once they find a source, the scout returns and within minutes a whole column of ants is marching along the same route.

The most common reasons ants head for your home:

  • Food leftovers, crumbs or sticky spots on worktops, under furniture or around the bin
  • Sweet drinks, sugar, honey, fruit or pet food left open
  • Moisture around sinks, drains, the bathroom, utility room or terrace
  • Cracks and gaps around window frames, doors, pipes and skirting boards
  • Nests in the soil around the building, under paving or around the foundations
  • Warm weather in spring and summer — the peak of seasonal activity

These reasons usually combine: an outdoor nest plus an indoor source of food or water. That is why a lasting solution always covers both, not just one.

Ant species in Bulgaria

Several kinds of ant are most often found in Bulgarian homes. Each behaves differently, prefers different food and reacts differently to treatment products — which is why the bait is chosen to suit the species. Our specialist identifies the species on site.

Garden ant

The most common — black, 3–5 mm. It nests in the soil around the building and comes indoors for sweet and greasy food.

Pharaoh ant

Tiny, yellowish, about 2 mm. It nests inside the building — in walls and cavities. Hard to eradicate.

Carpenter ant

Large, up to 12 mm. It settles in damp wood and can damage timber structures.

Kitchen and sweet foods

Worktops, cupboards, the sugar bowl — ants are drawn to sweet and greasy food and crumbs.

Damp areas

Around sinks, bathrooms and pipes — that is where ants find the water they also need.

Entry points

Cracks, skirting boards, plinths and gaps around windows — that is how the column gets in from outside.

The species matters: with the tiny pharaoh ant, spraying incorrectly can split the nest into several smaller ones and make the problem much harder to deal with. With large ants around old beams or damp wood, you also need to check whether they are nesting in the structure itself. That is why a good treatment starts not with spraying, but with working out where the ants come from and which approach will reach the colony itself.

Why shop-bought sprays don't work

The most common mistake is to spray the ants with a shop-bought spray. The spray instantly kills the workers you can see — and that creates the false impression that the problem is solved. But the visible ants are under 10% of the colony. The rest — larvae, pupae, new workers and the queen — are hidden in the nest and remain untouched.

What is more, the strong smell of the spray makes the surviving ants abandon their trails, make new ones and sometimes split the nest into several smaller ones (known as “budding”). So the problem does not just come back, it grows — it can spread from the kitchen to the bathroom, from the terrace to the living room or even to a neighbouring flat. Bait works the other way round — the ants take it for food, carry it to the nest of their own accord and pass it on to the queen themselves.

How baits destroy the whole colony

Professional baits turn the ants' own behaviour against the colony. The workers recognise the food base as a source of sweet or protein food, take it and carry it back to the nest, where they share it with the other ants, the larvae and the queen. That is exactly why the active ingredient works with a delay — if the bait killed at once, the worker would die on the way and nothing would reach the colony.

The workers find the bait

We place the bait right along the active ant trails. The workers recognise it as food and start carrying it back to the nest.

The food reaches the nest

In the nest the workers feed the bait to the larvae, the pupae and the queen herself. The active ingredient works with a delay — slowly enough to spread through the whole colony before it takes effect.

The queen dies — the colony dies

The queen is the only ant that lays eggs. Without her the colony cannot recover — production of new ants stops and the colony disappears completely.

This means that in the first few days it is perfectly normal to see more ants around the bait, not fewer. It is a sign that the bait is working — the ants recognise it, gather around it, feed on it and carry it away. Don't spray over the bait, don't wash it away and don't move it: the smell of cleaning products or other sprays can make the ants abandon it, and the effect weakens just as it is starting to work.

What ant treatment includes

During our visit we carry out a comprehensive treatment, matched to the ant species and to the route the ants use to get into your home. The standard treatment includes:

  • Inspection of the affected areas and identification of the ant species
  • Tracing the ant trails to the entry points and the direction of the nest
  • Placing professional gel baits along the active trails
  • Spraying biocide at entry points, skirting boards, plinths and cracks
  • Treatment of the kitchen, bathrooms and utility rooms
  • Service report for the work done, and an invoice
  • Guidance on how to maintain the effect and when to repeat the treatment if needed

For houses and ground-floor properties, special attention goes to terraces, the garden, paving, foundations, plant pots and damp spots — the real source is often outside, and spraying indoors alone is not enough. For flats, the focus is on the kitchen, bathrooms, shafts, pipes, balconies and the shared service lines along which the colony can pass between homes.

Treating a standard home takes about 20–30 minutes. Don't empty the kitchen cupboards and don't clean thoroughly before the treatment — the ant trails need to be active so that we can place the bait right along them. We will explain everything you need to prepare over the phone.

How long it takes for the ants to disappear

The effect begins gradually. Some of the ants disappear in the first few days, but the colony needs time to die out completely — exactly as long as the bait takes to pass through the workers and the larvae and reach the queen.

With an ordinary colony, activity drops sharply within 1–2 weeks and the ants disappear within 2–3 weeks. In more complex cases — several nests, heavy outdoor activity or hard-to-reach cavities — a repeat treatment may be needed after 2–3 weeks. With some species and with very large colonies this is perfectly normal.

The most important thing is not to interrupt the process too early. If you spray other products after the treatment, remove the baits or wash the active trails with strong cleaning products, the effect can be cut short just as the bait starts to work deep in the nest.

A product authorised for use in homes — no need to leave your home

The product we use is a certified, professional-grade, water-based biocide. It contains no solvents, gives off no irritating fumes and leaves no marks on tiles and walls.

We also treat homes with children, babies, pregnant women, bedridden people, cats, dogs and birds — according to the label and with instructions for the specific home. No re-entry period is needed, no ventilation is required, and you don't have to leave your home before or after the treatment.

The baits are placed in carefully chosen spots — usually in cracks, behind furniture or in areas that children and animals cannot easily reach. If there are babies, small children, pregnant women or pets in the home, tell us in advance so that we can choose the most suitable way of placing them.

How it works

  1. 01

    Booking

You contact us by phone (+359 879 200 906) or through the form on the website.

  2. 02

    Agreeing a time

We arrange a convenient time for the treatment — usually within 24–48 hours of your request, depending on our teams' workload and what suits you.

  3. 03

    Inspection and treatment

The specialist identifies the ant species, traces the trails to the entry points, places gel baits along the active trails and sprays the entry points with biocide. You receive a service report and an invoice.

  4. 04

    The first days after treatment

You may temporarily see more ants around the bait — this is normal and desirable: they are carrying it to the nest. Don't clean it away and don't spray over it.

  5. 05

    The colony dies out

Once the bait reaches the queen, the colony stops recovering. Within 1–3 weeks activity dies down and the ants disappear.

What to do before the treatment

No heavy preparation is needed, but a few things help the specialist target the treatment precisely:

  • Put food away in sealed containers and clean up any obvious crumbs and sticky spots
  • Don't leave pet food out the night before the treatment
  • Don't use a household spray and don't wash the active trails just before we arrive — the ants need to be active so that we can place the bait right along them
  • Show the specialist every place where you have seen ants — even if there is no activity there right now

The more accurate the information about the trails and entry points, the more precisely the treatment is targeted and the faster the bait reaches the nest.

What to do after the treatment

The first 5–7 days after the treatment are the most important — that is when the bait is carried to the nest and starts to work on the colony. During this time, let the ants do their job:

  • Don't remove the baits that have been placed and don't clean them
  • Don't spray other products on or near the baits
  • Don't wash the active areas straight away — don't break the trails the ants use to carry the bait
  • Keep up your usual hygiene, but don't touch or move the baits themselves
  • Keep food in sealed containers and clean up sweet and greasy residue

If you still see heavy activity after 3–4 weeks, call us for a reassessment — there may be a second nest or an entry point that was not visible on the first visit.

How often should the home be treated?

Ants are most active in the warm months — invasions start in spring and peak in summer. One comprehensive treatment is usually enough to destroy the colony. With a very large or old colony it may be wise to repeat after 2–3 weeks, and preventive spraying of the entry points keeps new colonies out.

For an active problem
1×

Comprehensive treatment

One treatment with baits and spraying. For a large colony, we repeat after 2–3 weeks if needed.

2× / yr

Seasonal protection

Preventive spraying of the entry points in early spring and in autumn.

1× / yr

Maintenance

Once a year for homes with no active problem — before the warm season begins.

What you can do yourself

A professional treatment destroys the colony, but a few simple habits reduce the risk of a new colony finding your home:

  • Wipe up crumbs, spilt sugar and drops of sweet drinks straight away
  • Store sugar, honey, biscuits and pet food in tightly sealed containers
  • Wipe greasy surfaces on the worktop and around the cooker
  • Seal cracks and gaps around windows, doors and pipes — that is where they get in
  • Don't leave dirty dishes and food out overnight
  • Fix leaks and dry the sinks — ants look for water too

These measures do not replace a professional treatment, but they extend its effect and stop scouts from finding a new reason to come in.

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to the questions our customers ask most.

Treating a standard home usually takes about 20–30 minutes.

During that time our specialist inspects the places where the ants appear, works out where they come in, treats the key areas and gives brief instructions on what not to clean straight after the visit.

In standard cases you do not need to leave your home.

Ant treatment is carried out with professional products and methods suited to residential settings. The products are used in a controlled way, only where needed, and by a trained specialist.

No special preparation is required, and there is no long period without access to the home. After the treatment our team will give you short, clear instructions on what not to clean straight away, so that we achieve the best result.

Yes. When it is carried out professionally and the products are applied according to the label, the treatment can also be done in homes with children and pets.

We work with professional products designed for use in residential settings. We apply them in a controlled way and only where necessary. That gives you an effective treatment without needlessly treating the whole home.

You don't need to move the whole household out or do any complicated preparation. It is enough to follow the short instructions our team will give you after the treatment.

With a proper treatment, activity usually starts to drop within a few days.

With a larger colony more time may be needed, because the aim is not just to destroy the ants you see right now, but to reach the source of the problem.

In some cases it can take 1–3 weeks to bring things fully under control. This depends on the size of the colony, where the nest is, and whether the ants come from outside or have already settled in the building.

This can happen with a professional ant treatment and does not mean there is a problem.

At first the ants may stay active, because the treatment is not aimed only at instantly killing the visible insects. The aim is to affect the colony deep down.

So don't spray anything extra, don't wash the treated places straight away and don't break the trails our specialist has pointed out.

A spray usually kills only the ants you can see at that moment.

The problem is that the visible ants are only a small part of the colony. The nest, the larvae and the queen often remain untouched. So after a brief lull the ants can reappear, sometimes even somewhere else.

A professional treatment works differently. We don't treat only the visible ants; we look for where they come from, where they travel and where the source of the problem is.

Ants live in colonies and travel along established trails. That is why a good treatment is not done at random, but targeted at the places where there is real activity.

Our team traces where the ants appear, where they travel, what they are heading for and where they most likely enter the home. We then treat the key areas so that the colony itself is affected, not just the visible ants.

In many cases one well-done treatment is enough to bring the problem under control.

With larger colonies, several nests, or activity coming from a garden, terrace, neighbouring rooms or communal areas, a repeat treatment may be needed. This is judged case by case, based on how the ants behave after the first visit.

Don't clean the treated places or the areas our specialist has pointed out straight away. Don't use household products on them.

Don't wash the ant trails with strong or scented cleaning products straight after the visit. Don't spray anything extra with a shop-bought spray.

The most important thing is to let the treatment work, without interrupting the process.

Keep food in sealed containers, clear away crumbs and sugary residue, don't leave pet food out overnight, and dry the areas around sinks, drains and terraces.

It also helps to seal cracks around window and door frames, pipes, joints and any other gaps the ants could use to get in.

These measures are no substitute for a professional treatment, but they lower the risk of ants finding their way back into your home.

Yes. We don't only treat the inside of the property. We also treat terraces, gardens, paving, the areas around a house's foundations and the points where ants enter the building.

For outdoor treatment too, we apply the products according to the label and only where needed. It matters most for houses, ground-floor properties and premises where the ants come in from outside.

We treat the ants most commonly found in homes: small black or brown ants, yellowish indoor species, and larger ants around gardens, terraces, damp areas or timber.

The exact species matters, because different ants nest in different places and respond differently to treatment. That's why we first look at where they come from, where they travel and which spots are the most important to treat.

Yes. With ants, the nest is often hidden: in the soil, under tiles, behind skirting boards, around pipes, in cavities, under flooring or outside the building.

The nest doesn't always need to be visible for us to get a good result. What matters more is tracing where the ants travel and where they get in. That is exactly where the professional treatment is directed.

The price depends on the size of the property and the extent of the problem.

For a property of up to 150 m² the price is €59, and for up to 300 m² it is €99, VAT included. For larger properties, houses, gardens or sites outside the standard areas, we can prepare an individual quote based on your specific case.

We cover Sofia, Plovdiv and Pernik on standard terms.

For other towns and villages we can prepare an individual quote based on the distance, the scope of the treatment and whether it can be combined with other sites in the area.

Because we don't treat ants as individual insects, but as a colony with a source, trails and entry points.

Our approach covers assessing the situation, choosing the right method, treating the key areas and giving you clear instructions after the visit. Our aim is to get the problem under control at its root, not just to make the ants you can see right now disappear for a while.

We have many years of experience in professional pest control, certified teams and hundreds of genuine customer reviews.
