Cockroaches are among the most resilient and unpleasant pests in Bulgarian homes. They pose a serious health risk — they spread bacteria and allergens across surfaces, food and kitchen utensils, can trigger allergic reactions and asthma in children, and are linked to more than 30 different pathogens.
Their arrival is rarely down to poor hygiene. They come in from outside — through drains, ventilation, cracks in walls, in luggage from trips, in delivered goods, or simply from the communal areas of the building. Once inside, they breed extremely fast and can colonise a whole kitchen within weeks.
That's why a professional treatment is not just “spraying the kitchen” but targeted action across the whole cockroach life cycle, with a guaranteed result.
Cockroach species in Bulgaria
Three main species of cockroach turn up in Bulgarian homes. Each behaves differently, lives in a different habitat and needs a specific approach. Our specialists identify the species on site and choose the most effective active ingredient and application points.
German cockroach
The most common — light brown, up to 15 mm. It lives in kitchens, bathrooms, cupboards and around appliances.
Oriental cockroach
Dark brown to black, up to 25 mm. It lives in basements, shafts and damp, cooler rooms.
American cockroach
The largest — reddish-brown, up to 40 mm. It comes up from the sewers and can fly.
The warm kitchen
Behind the fridge, around the cooker and the coffee machine — this is where they breed fastest.
Damp areas
Under the sink, around drain pipes and U-bends — they drink water and hide there.
Drains and shafts
The main route they use to arrive from neighbouring flats and through the building's shared sewer system.
What cockroach treatment includes
On every visit, Preventa carries out a comprehensive treatment with a professional biocide and gel application. The standard scope includes:
- Inspection of the affected areas and identification of the cockroach species
- Spot application of the product along the corners between wall and floor, and in cracks
- Treatment around drain and service openings
- Gel application in kitchen cupboards and behind appliances (fridge, cooker, microwave, coffee machine)
- Treatment of bathrooms, toilets and utility rooms
- Service report for the work done, and an invoice
- 6-month unconditional guarantee, starting immediately after the treatment
The whole treatment takes about 30 minutes for a standard home. In most cases no advance preparation is needed, but if the infestation is severe you may need to empty the kitchen cupboards. Anything you need to prepare will be explained over the phone.
A product authorised for use in homes — no need to leave your home
The products we use are certified, water-based, professional-grade biocides. They contain no solvents, give off no irritating fumes and leave no marks on tiles and walls.
We also treat homes with children, babies, pregnant women, bedridden people, cats, dogs and birds — according to the label and with instructions for the specific home. No re-entry period is needed, no ventilation is required, and you don't have to leave your home before or after the treatment.
Why our product leaves no marks or smell
The main product we use is a certified, professional-grade, water-based biocide with a microencapsulated formula. The active ingredient is sealed inside microscopic polymer capsules — they don't evaporate, give off no smell and leave no white marks or sticky patches on tiles and walls.
The capsules stick to the cockroach's body when it touches the treated surface. When the insect cleans its legs and mouthparts (grooming), the capsules enter its digestive system and only there does the shell dissolve — the active ingredient is released inside the cockroach. That is why you can't detect the product in your home: it acts only where it should.
Why one treatment is enough with us
Egg capsules
Cockroaches lay their eggs in tough protective capsules (oothecae) that are resistant to most insecticides. A single female German cockroach can produce up to 8 capsules of 30–40 eggs each.
The treatment
It kills all adults and nymphs that come into contact with the product. Visible results within 24–72 hours. But the eggs remain protected and keep developing.
Residual action for 14–20 days
In the 14–20 day window, the new generation hatches from the egg capsules. The product is still active on the treated surfaces and kills the newly hatched nymphs before they reach sexual maturity and start laying eggs — so the cycle is broken completely, with no second visit.
How it works
-
01
Booking
You contact us by phone (+359 879 200 906) or through the form on the website.
-
02
Agreeing a time
We agree a convenient time for the treatment — usually within 24–48 hours of your request, depending on our teams' workload and your convenience.
-
03
Treatment (30 minutes)
We arrive at the agreed time (give or take 5–10 minutes). Our specialist inspects the property and decides the best approach for your case — the scope and the products are chosen according to the type and severity of the infestation. You receive a service report and an invoice.
-
04
Visible results (24–72 hours)
Adults and nymphs begin to die off in large numbers. You see a significant drop in activity within the first 1–2 days.
-
05
Residual action (14–20 days)
The product stays active on the treated surfaces and kills the new generation hatching from the egg capsules — before it can breed. No second visit and no second payment.
-
06
6-month guarantee
The unconditional guarantee starts immediately after the treatment. If you see a live cockroach during this period, you call and we come out free of charge.
How often should the home be treated?
The frequency depends on whether there are cockroaches in neighbouring flats, how well the drain openings are sealed and the state of hygiene in the building. After a full treatment with a guarantee, a preventive treatment once every 6 months is enough for most households. Where the risk is higher (restaurants or bars near your home, infested neighbours, an old block with a shared sewer), we recommend more frequent visits.
For an active problem
1×
Initial treatment
One treatment, after which you have a 6-month unconditional guarantee.
1× / 6mo
For high-risk homes
A preventive treatment once every 6 months — for blocks with a shared sewer and risers.
1× / yr
Standard prevention
Once a year for well-kept homes with no active problem.
What you can do yourself
A professional treatment stops cockroach activity, but good housekeeping reduces the risk of re-infestation:
- Keep the kitchen clean, especially behind and under appliances
- Don't leave food and crumbs out overnight
- Keep bin lids tightly closed and take the rubbish out regularly
- Seal cracks in walls, around pipes and in the corners between wall and floor
- Check luggage and delivered goods before bringing them into the home
- Wipe wet surfaces dry — cockroaches need water
These measures are no substitute for a professional treatment, but they prolong its effect and slow down re-infestation from neighbouring homes.
